Michael Smith, owner of Depression Modern in SoHo, and Mary Corliss, former assistant curator at The Museum of Modern Art, announce the opening of their store, ADELAIDE, showcasing a vintage mix of classic 20th-century design. Architect Stephen Alastair Wanta has turned what was originally a trucking garage in the West Village into an elegant space that is now filled with exceptional pieces of furniture, design objects, and artworks spanning the 20th century’s most glamorous and creative decades: the 1930s to the 1960s. Beneath an aluminum and bronze moderne chandelier, some of the finest examples of American and international modern design are displayed. Visitors to ADELAIDE will step into a past of varied aesthetics and styles.
